Connectivity & travel

Rajshahi is connected by air only  with Dhaka at present.  At present United Airways operate small flights thrice in a week to Dhaka.  Unfortunately, one has to purchase tickets from travel agents in Bangladesh or United Airways office in Kolkata as the tickets are not available online. However, flights change from time to time.  Therefore, it will be better to ascertain details from travel agents. Dhaka is connected with Kolkata and Delhi with daily flights by Air India, Jet Airways and United Airways.  Bangladesh Biman also operates flights.  Rajshahi is also connected to Kolkata by road and rail viz Gede, Haridaspur and Hili at the West Bengal border.

One can travel by bus from Benapole (Haridaspur) and Hili at the West Bengal border to Rajshahi, both of which are half a day’s journey. From Gede (Darshana) at the West Bengal border one can take a train which takes about 4 hrs.   Train journey requires arrangement of tickets well ahead of journey.  All 18 districts in the jurisdiction of Assistant High Commission in Rajshahi can be accessed by road from these border posts.  Buses are available.  Cars can also be hired at rates which are more or less matching with India.

Sylhet is connected by air, road and rail with Dhaka.  At present Sylhet is connected internationally only with London by irregular flights.  Sylhet is about an hour’s journey from Dawki (Tamabil) border in Meghalaya.  Dawki is well connected with Shillong and further to Guwahati.  In addition Sylhet is connected with Karimganj of Assam through Sutarkandi and other Land Customs Stations (LCS).

Agartala inTripura is right on the border with Brahmanbaria district.  Akhaura is a major LCS connecting Agartala with Bangladesh territory.  Akhaura is an important rail station.  In addition Srimantapur (Bibir Bazar) and Belonia are two more LCS which can be used to access Comilla and Feni district respectively.
